If you have ever thought about doing business abroad, sure you have considered this destination. Many people try to start a company in the U.S. because this country has the strongest economy of the world.
However, the fear of bureaucracy or the lack of knowledge of the process end up discouraging some people.
For this reason, we described some steps to help you out in this journey.
Valid passport
One of the documents needed to launch your company in the United States is the passport. You must present your valid Brazilian passport.
Choose the State where you will start your company
Choose the State where you wish to set up your company. It is important to search for information of taxes, licenses and registers in the State chosen, once each one rules autonomously.
Select the type of entity
Select which type of company makes more sense to your business: Corporation, Partnership, Sole Proprietorship, LLC or LLP.
This choice is important because it will affect directly the taxation of income tax, whether federal or state.
Define the company name and address
Define the company name and commercial address. Remember that you can choose a name for the company known in the U.S as Doing Business As (DBA).
Choose a Registered Agent
Your company must have a registered agent in the State where it will be established. This agent can be your partner, in case he or she lives in the same State where the company will be established or a third natural or legal person, which will be responsible for receiving all the legal and state documents of the company.
Register your company and Get an EIN number
Proceed with the register of your company in the Company Division of the State chosen and pay the fees required.
After your company is definitely established in the State, you must apply for an EIN number (Employer Identification Number) issued by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). The function of the EIN number is equivalent to CNPJ in Brazil.
Bank Account
After getting the EIN number, the company is ready to have a bank account in an American bank.
Some banks make it easier opening an account remotely; other banks, though, require it is done on-site.
